The Revd. Fr. Baruch Rabinowitz, OCPIn charge of the Mission in development of St Christopher of the Companions of the Cross and Passion, Germany: The Ordo Christi Passionis.
Fr. Baruch was baptised in the Roman Catholic Church aged 14 but left that church in response to several anti-semitic incidents. He continued his theological studies and was ordained as a rabbi at an Orthodox Jewish rabbinical institute in Israel. He served several Jewish communities in that capacity for eight years in Germany until 2005 when his faith in Jesus Christ made his position no longer tenable. This caused him to return to Catholicism, but this time to seek a church where his sacramental faith would be understood within a liberal and esoteric context.
Fr. Baruch's interests extend not only to the normative Christian and Jewish traditions, but also to Gnosticism and Buddhism. Fr. Baruch was ordained to the diaconate and then to the priesthood by Mar Alexei on 1 January 2009.
The Ordo Christi Passionis
The Ordo Christi Passionis is a parallel sister community to the Companions of the Cross and Passion (CCP). The Father Superior of CCP is providing Episcopal oversight for the new community and supporting it’s founder and first Prior, Fr Baruch Ignatius OCP. Whilst Companions of the Cross and Passion live in their own homes following the Passionist charism without the taking of traditional monastic vows it is hope that the Ordo Christi Passionis will in time become a residential monastic community.
